Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Meigs County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That provider processes the request and supplies any result. We do not retain or log the search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be kept long enough to answer and manage the message. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server may collect routine technical details about the visit:

  • Page-view timestamps
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Device IP address
  • Referring site, when one is available
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which pages are visited most and where sessions end. Browser controls can block cookies, though that choice may change how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a submitted search to the selected partner
  • Maintain site availability and load speed
  • Detect and repair technical problems
  • Measure which pages are useful or need improvement
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Meigs County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Circuit Court Clerk, Meigs County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules govern anything entered there. We do not control those practices, so review the applicable provider policy before submitting information.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to a sheriff, court, Tennessee agency, legal resource, or outside search service. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy terms apply. Check them before providing personal information.

Some advertising partners may use their own systems to track activity across websites and tailor ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be disclosed to:

  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
  • Advertising networks that place ads on the pages
  • Analytics services that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process a query submitted to their tool

How We Protect Your Data

Standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so absolute protection against a breach cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If a minor's information was provided, contact us so it can be deleted.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on where a visitor lives and the law that applies. Tennessee public records are governed by the Tennessee Public Records Act, Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 10-7-501 through 10-7-515, while registry dissemination is addressed in Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-39-206. Those laws govern public custodians and do not turn this private site into a government records office. Visitors may still:

  • Opt out of certain processing when that choice is available
  • Request deletion of personal data we hold
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate personal data
  • Request a copy of personal information maintained about them

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. An updated version will be posted here with a new effective date, so visitors can review the current handling practices.

Effective date: August 8, 2026
